In 2014, my good friend Dr. George Simmons and I put together a trip for his sons and good friends.
Because of date conflicts and the total number of hunters, we split the trip into two groups, three hunting days for each group, with George and I staying for both groups.
As luck would have it, the second group was delayed out of Miami due to weather and arrived a day late. This meant George and I had nothing to do the afternoon the first group departed. So, JJ was kind enough to set up a perdiz hunt after lunch. We simply walked out from the lodge and across the pond dam and were very soon shooting perdiz with excellent dog work and dog handling by Augustine.
It wasn’t long before we had shot our limit!
So, with still a few hours to kill we decided to sit by the fire with a few bottles of wine and cheese plates the lodge prepared and commence to solve all our problems. To this day, that afternoon is a special memory. What started out to be a bad day, turned out to be a great day at Sierra Brava, relaxing by the fire overlooking the beautiful scenery with great wine and a great friend.
